Dr. Allison Downing
Dr. Downing began her career teaching 8th grade science and Biology I in south Mississippi schools. At the collegiate level, she has taught General Biology I and II and Anatomy and Physiology, but specializes in science methods for elementary teachers and supervising Biology student teachers.
While teaching at the collegiate level, she has spent time researching and collaborating with elementary teachers to find the best methods for engaging young children in science. She works to weave literature both fiction and nonfiction into the K-8 science classroom to support students’ interest, awareness, and learning. She also serves as the director of Mississippi Science Olympiad.
