“Pollination Station”

How Flowers and Bees Team Up for Sweet Success!

Students learn to identify reproductive structures within the flowers and how self-pollination differs from cross-pollination. We learn why it’s mutually beneficial to plants and animal pollinators to work together and how they accomplish pollination from one plant to the next. #biology of insect pollinators, #botany of flowering plants, #ecosystem of seed dispersal.

Students will build a simple model bee and engage in a fun, hands-on pollination experiment of their own that introduces them to the process of pollen transfer and cross pollination.

Approximate time needed: 1 hour

Standards MS CCRS: L.1.1.2, L.1.3B, L.1.3B.1, L.2.3B, BOT.3.4
