Want to learn another language? How about math?....This lesson helps students bridge the gap between everyday language and mathematical expressions and equations. Students will learn how to carefully read verbal descriptions, identify key phrases, and translate them accurately into algebraic equations.

Approximate Time:   60 minutes

Grade Level:   8th Grade, 9th Grade (Algebra 1)

Standards:    MS CCRS: A-CED.1, A-REI.3

MS-CCRS-A-CED.1: Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems. Include equations arising from linear and quadratic functions, and simple rational and exponential functions.

MS-CCRS-A-REI.3: Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients and represented by letters.
