Function Representations

Welcome! We hope you find everything you need here to have a great STEM Lesson! Please let us know if you have any questions.
STEMonDemand@usm.edu

This lesson introduces students to the multiple ways that functions can be represented—verbally, algebraically, graphically, and with data tables. Students will explore these representations through interactive tools and a card-matching game called “Function Wars.” By the end of the lesson, students will be able to describe function rules in words, write them algebraically, and interpret them in various formats, helping them make connections between mathematical concepts and real-world applications.

Approximate time needed:  60-minutes

Standards MS CCRS:

● 8.F.2: Compare properties of two functions, each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions).

● F.LE.5: Construct and compare linear, quadratic, and exponential models to solve problems.
